Monica Vitti left her mark in the history of cinema, and helped transform Italian culture by bringing revolutionary female characters to life. Contemporanea paid homage to the timeless icon by hosting a special screening of Red Desert, introduced by Vitti’s biographer Cristina Borsatti.

A talk celebrating Italian cinema giant Franca Valeri, hosted by her long-standing friend and collaborator Emiliana Palmieri. Presented in collaboration with Rai Teche and the Italian National Film Archive, the event will feature a live performance by actress Demetra Bellina.

With twenty feature credits to her name, Arzner is the most prolific female director of the male-dominated Golden Age. Renowned as a star-maker of up-and-coming actresses, she directed Katharine Hepburn and Lucille Ball in breakout roles.
